At our service at 9.15 on Sunday morning, we'll be exploring the 'desert places' in our world and our lives, and getting our heads, our hearts and our feet round the idea that we are called to be 'a people on the move': a pilgrim people walking with a pilgrim God.

We'll be continuing our reflections during the following week, on Tuesday evening at 7.30pm at the Vicarage (15 St Mark's Road), or Wednesday afternoon at 2.30pm at 26 Blackthorne Road. All are welcome to come and talk, listen, learn and pray together.Alastair Barrett (St Mark's)http://www.blogger.com/profile/04007631614710782918noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32385151.post-83062992863753596552007-02-19T15:18:00.000Z2007-02-19T15:37:47.581Z2007-02-19T15:37:47.581ZBEGINNING THE JOURNEY OF LENT

Lent, the time of preparation for the events of Holy Week and Easter, begins this Wednesday.

On Ash Wednesday (21st Feb), at 7.30pm, there is a reflective service in church, where we remember the brokenness of our own lives, and our part in the brokenness of the world, and open ourselves afresh to God's forgiveness and healing. We are then 'marked' with ash, the sign of God's intimate presence which will stay with us through the days of Lent. We'll also be 'getting into the feel of Advent', by starting to learn again the habits of silence, and seeing the first candle-light that will spread through the darkness as the weeks go on!

In the evening, at 6pm, we have a reflective service, by candle-light. Called 'Open our eyes', it will take us through some of the great readings and themes of Advent, and help prepare our bodies, minds and hearts for the weeks ahead. There will be some good bits of 'quiet space', but also a chance to sing some of the greatest Advent hymns.Alastair Barrett (St Mark's)http://www.blogger.com/profile/04007631614710782918noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32385151.post-1160069989028755732006-10-05T18:35:00.000+01:002006-10-09T15:19:04.423+01:002006-10-09T15:19:04.423+01:00REMEMBER, REMEMBER...

...the 5th of November! It's a time also for remembering those who go hungry in our world - praying, committing ourselves to work for generosity and justice, and also to bring with us donations of food which will go to homeless young people in Birmingham, through the work of St Basil's

On Saturday night, at 7pm, we have a Buffet Supper and Barn Dance. Tickets are £4 for adults, £2 for school-age children and young people.

On Sunday morning, at 10am, we have our Harvest Festival service - a communion service (sharing bread and wine together) for all ages. Please bring some (non-perishable) food for us to take to St Basil's. If you can, try and bring at least one item with the 'FairTrade' logo on it...

For more details, contact Alastair (contact details on the website).Alastair Barrett (St Mark's)http://www.blogger.com/profile/04007631614710782918noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32385151.post-1159201305955158062006-09-25T17:20:00.000+01:002006-09-25T17:21:45.966+01:002006-09-25T17:21:45.966+01:00Welcome to the new St Mark's website!

This will be the page that will tell you what's happening at St Mark's.
